Turing ’ s Imitation Game : a discussion with the benefit of hind

چکیده

Alan Turing proposed the imitation game in his 1950 paper titled “Computing Machinery and Intelligence” [1]. This paper discussed the arguments for and against artificial intelligence that existed then. Since this time, science has advanced in areas of neuroscience, machine learning, and computer theory granting us a different perspective on the argument. This paper discusses the history of Artificial Intelligence (AI), progress made in the field, and the arguments against AI. It also summarizes the discussion from the 19 October meeting of “Reading the Classics."

Laplace , Turing and the " imitation game " impossible geometry : randomness , determinism and programs in Turing ' s test

: From the physico-mathematical view point, the imitation game between man and machine, proposed by Turing in 1950, is a game between a discrete and a continuous system. Turing stresses several times the laplacian nature of his discrete-state machine, yet he tries to show the undetectability of a functional imitation, by his machine, of a system (the brain) that, in his words, is not a discrete...

The Imitation Game

This issue of the Kybernetes journal is concerned with the philosophical question Can a Machine Think? Famously, in his 1950 paper ‘Computing Machinery and Intelligence’ [11], the British mathematician Alan Turing suggested replacing this question which he found “too meaningless to deserve discussion” with a simple [behaviourial] test based on an imagined Victorian-esque pastime he entitled the...

Undecidability of the Imitation Game

This paper considers the concept of computability in the original version of the imitation game proposed by Alan M. Turing, the so-called Turing test. In the Turing test, a man, an imitating machine, and an interrogator are the players of an imitation game. In our version of the Turing test, the imitator and the interrogator are formalized as Turing machines, allowing us to derive some impossib...

for the Turing test. Gary Marcus in The New Yorker asks “What Comes After the Turing Test?” and wants “to update a sixty-four-year-old test for the modern era” (Marcus 2014). Moshe Vardi in his Communications of the ACM article “Would Turing Have Passed the Turing Test?” opines that “It’s time to consider the Imitation Game as just a game” (Vardi 2014). The popular media recommends that we “For...

A computer program capable of passing I.Q. tests

The Imitation Game (Alan M. Turing, 1950), now commonly known as the Turing Test (see, e.g., Oppy and Dowe, http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/turing-test, 2003), was proposed as a way in which thinking or intelligence could be ascribed to any agent including a computer program or machine able to play the game. People routinely ascribe intelligence to humans and other animals by a variety of mea...
